Ian McNabb - sadly missed

It was with great sadness that we learnt of our Trustee Ian McNabb’s sudden and unexpected passing on 3 May 2021, after a short illness. Many people turned out to farewell Ian and support Katie and his family at a moving service held in Picton.

Ian was an immense power within the Marlborough Kaikōura Trail Trust, guiding newer trustees and staff with his knowledge: not only of business, construction, local issues and the Marlborough District Council, but equally as a local farmer and Southern Marlborough Man.

Ian held a long relationship with Ngai Tahu and Te Ātiawa.

Ian had been employed in a number of property roles throughout the South Island, including 10 years as a senior manager with Ngai Tahu Property Ltd. More recently he had been the CEO at Port Marlborough NZ Ltd, a role he retired from in January 2018. Ian farmed in Ward until 1989, where a section of the trail will pass through. He represented the Marlborough District Council on the Trust.

Ian believed the Trust provided an opportunity to create something really special for the Marlborough and Kaikōura regions. The Trust agrees and will continue working on a legacy for which Ian contributed so much time and enthusiasm.

Ian is sadly missed by many.
