Keep up to date with trail status including any maintenance, closures or detours
Please respect all trail notices THEY'RE FOR YOUR SAFETY!! This is especially relevant for the Section between Picton and Tuamarina where our constuction and maintenance crews will not expect riders on the trail.
Some of the trail passes through private land and working vineyards, for your safety and the continued support of the community please respect their rules.

Washed out trail - Middle Creek, Kaikoura
Middle Creek - KiwiRail Bridge
After the recent flood in Kaikoura a 40meter section of trail alongside Middle Creek, which goes under the KiwiRail Bridge has been totally washed out. We are due to install a Whale Trail bridge over the creek within the next 6 weeks but until then this section of trail remains closed.

Slip - Between Para Road and Tuamarina Bridge
Between Para Road and Tuamarina Bridge
Contractors will be clearing a small slip on Friday 11 September 2026 between the hours of 7:30am - 4:00pm. They will be using a small digger and dumper to remove spoil. Signs will be out in place approx 100 meters on both sides of the location. Location is approx 3.9kms Sth of Para Rd and 1.4kms Nth of the Para Wetland Lookout. Please avoid using the trail during this time. Plan to use it another day. The alert will be updated after completion of the works.

Caution - surface water & silt on Waitohi section
Waitohi section
The water is now receding along the Waitohi section of the trail. There’s still some surface water and silt in places, so please take extra care and use your judgement as you may need to hop off your bike and push in a few spots where the surface is soft.
We'll be out and about over the next few days tidying up along the trail.
