Para Wetlands Section is Open

The Para Wetlands section is open for the long weekend. There is still some surface water and erosion along parts of the trail and around the bridge abutments, so please take extra care as you ride or walk through.

Most of the trail is rideable, but there are a few spots where you’ll need to hop off and push your bike.

There is a large log on the trail just south of the Tuamarino Bridge — you’ll need to lift your bike over this. Our team will get out there as soon as we can to clear it.

Due to the recent weather event, the Kaikoura section of trail is closed. We will get out to assess the condition of the trail as soon as possible.

Update: 

The Kaikoura to Hapuku trail has suffered serious damage with total loss of short sections of the trail (Middle Creek and Hapuku Road Bridge Carpark) and will remain closed until further notice.

Caution: The ford at Reserve Road is currently high. 

The water is now receding along the Waitohi section of the trail. There’s still some surface water and silt in places, so please take extra care and use your judgement as you may need to hop off your bike and push in a few spots where the surface is soft.

We'll be out and about over the next few days tidying up along the trail.

Reserve Road has recently been re‑gravelled with a thicker layer of gravel, so please take extra care when passing through this section. We’re working with our partners to improve the surface and overall rideability.

We are busy building trail south of Ward, so for your safety and to let our construction teams get on with the build, please keep out of construction areas. Keep an eye out on the website for updates.

Due to high traffic in this area, the Picton Elevation is not suitable DO NOT USE. Please start/end your journey at Tuamarino.
