Meet the Kaikōura Whale Trail team

Monday 21 March- 6pm

Upper Room

Kaikōura

The local Kaikōura Whale Trail team is busy planning the ideal route for the Kaikōura to Hapuku section of the trail. It's one of the 8 Whale Trail sections either open, under construction, or in design, and if you’re a Kaikoura local, it’s going to get exciting very soon.

The Whale Trail crew has been busy working closely on design and routing of the trail with the inspirational Kaikoura Cycle Club members, Te Rūnanga o Kaikoura, local government organisations, and many different landowners. The opportunity exists  for this enthusiastic community to work with top-flight trail designers and engineers to build on their already considerable trail design and construction knowledge.

The benefits to communities where trails similar to this project have been established have been well documented.   From increased business and employment opportunities to a furthering of the trail network and growing engagement in healthy activities, these trails bring huge benefits to their local community.

The Whale Trail is hosting a Kaikōura community meeting at the Upper Room from 6 pm on Thursday, March 21st to hear your hopes and aspirations for the trail.  We’ll share examples from other regions and look at some of the ways communities have capitalised on the establishment of an asset such as this.

So if youre in Kaikōura and want to kōrero with the Whale Trail team come on down on the March 21st  and join the conversation!
