Local Picton artist and illustrator, Caroline della Porta has just added the final touches to her stunning 'The Four Directions" mural which now adorns The Whale Trail track at Picton's Elevation.
Commissioned in partnership with The Whale Trail and KiwiRail, Caroline drew inspiration from the iconic whale tail shape of The Whale Trails logo, alongside the elements and the landscapes that feature in The Whale Trail's story. "KiwiRails only stipulation was that I included the InterIslander ferry." said Caroline.

Duncan Roy, Executive General Manager – Interislander comments, “It’s great to see the Interislander ferry immortalised in this fantastic mural. Caroline has really captured that special journey our ferries take every day through the stunning Marlborough Sounds.”
The four individual murals which form the completed art installation, depict the hills, valleys, and rivers of the region, and the "mighty Pacific".
Caroline adds, "It's been an absolute pleasure to create and install this artwork for all to enjoy. I had lots of kind word, friendly smiles and toots of encouragement from people on the trail and passersby."

The best way to see all four sides of the mural is to head up to the Elevation on The Whale Trail, or you can catch a glimpse as you drive North on SH1 and look left towards the train tunnel.
The mural was made possible thanks to KiwiRail who sponsored the project, and Equus who generously provided the paint.
