The Para Wetlands and Beyond
Our team has been working hard, making impressive strides toward connecting the trail through the beautiful Para Wetlands. Last week, we reached a major milestone with the installation of the Para Stream Bridge.
This complex feat was executed by CMT, led by Lyndon Hemi, in collaboration with Williams Hoist and Haul. The bridge, crafted by local engineers at Burleigh Engineering, was carefully placed in position just before the final whistle on Friday, marking a spectacular end to the week.
Waitohi Section: New Construction and Nature Adventures
There's also significant activity around the Waitohi Section, particularly north and south of Para Road. Construction on the 4km stretch between the newly installed Tua Marino Bridge and the Para Stream Bridge will begin next week with Elite Construction. For nature lovers, this section is a dream, passing alongside two key wetlands on the way to Koromiko.
At present, the Waitohi Section is open to the Tua Marino Bridge, roughly 1.6km north of Bush Road. While the bridge itself is currently closed, the trail offers a peaceful, shaded ride or walk along the Tua Marino Creek, making it a perfect extension to your out and back journey north from Blenheim.

Recently rode the new 1.3km trail from Tuamarina , North to the new bridge which is 'taped off'.
Enjoyed the windy nature and the smooth surface, and inexperienced riders need to take care.
Congratulations team, and one more stage on the way to completion for the Blenheim to Picton end of the Whale Trail.😎 Kevin Hawkins, Blenheim
